Pick n Save vs Piggly Wiggly
We are a few weeks into Pick n Save’s vegetable waste project. I have learned a lot about the how grocery stores work! Yes Pick n Save is bigger than Piggly Wiggly, but that doesn’t mean that Pick n Save diverts more from the landfill. Here are a few things I have learned:
-One of the Pick N Save’s will use the fruit taken off the floor that is perfectly fine but consumers might not like it and cut it up for the salad bar. The other store doesn’t. Therefore one store has more weight that we pick up to compost- but does that make them winner? They “composted” the most weight…..
-Piggly Wiggly reduces their banana prices to sell them. I had 90lbs of bananas from Pick n Save one pick up. They weren’t that brown, I ate one even! What is better??
Thoughts….
I am just proud of the store that are participating for taking that step towards landfill diversion.
